Nintendo to look further towards movie adaptations in future

Nintendo could be taking a more involved role in its IP making appearances on the big screen, according to Shigeru Miyamoto.
The company has traditionally been strictly protective of its characters and franchises when it comes to other entertainment mediums ever since the infamous failure of the 1993 Super Mario Bros. movie.
But in an interview with Fortune, acting Nintendo director and creator of so many of its loved franchises, Shigeru Miyamoto, has indicated that the company would naturally take a second look at movies as it expands the use of its IP:
"As we look more broadly at what is Nintendo’s role as an entertainment company, we’re starting to think more and more about how movies can fit in with that—and we’ll potentially be looking at things like movies in the future."
The statement comes as Nintendo undergoes a broad process of expanding how it uses its franchises and characters. Having already signed a major deal with DeNA to produce games on mobile devices, Nintendo also recently revealed a partnership to build Nintendo-themed attractions at Universal Studios resorts.
Nintendo characters have already started to make official appearances in recent Hollywood movies; 2012's Wreck-It Ralph and this year's Pixels.
