Nintendo World Championships return as E3 schedule revealed

Nintendo of America has divulged its schedule for this year's E3 convention, and is bringing back the Nintendo World Championships for the party.

Following on from the success of last year's live Super Smash Bros. Tournament, a grand competition will be held on Sunday June 14th for the first Nintendo World Championships in 25 years. Despite the name, qualifying heats will sadly only take place in the US at the end of May.

The headline Nintendo Digital Event - which again takes the place of a live conference - will air on Tuesday June 16th at the traditional time of 17:00 BST / 18:00 CEST. This is when all the shiny new stuff will be revealed.

Once again, the Nintendo Treehouse team will be on-hand on the show floor live-streaming gameplay sessions of the best of the company's offerings throughout the week.

Finally, again mirroring last year, American gamers lucky enough to live near a participating Best Buy will get to play the upcoming Wii U title Mario Maker during the week.

All this was announced during a traditionally zany NOA skit featuring all your favourite executives.
