No price drop for Wii U, offers "great value"

Although many would like to see a 3DS style price drop to give Wii U's sales the shot in the arm it so desperately needs, the people who matter when it comes to this, Nintendo themselves, aren't planning on helping consumers wallets any time soon.
Speaking with VentureBeat, NOA's Scott Moffit has said that Nintendo will not be dropping their price point any time soon, and gave his reasons why.
"We have no plans to change the price of the Wii U. The Wii U is great value. With great content coming, that will drive the hardware install base. We've gone from being the highest priced console on the market to now being a great value with the announcements from our competitors...They'll be able to enjoy a Wii U in their household for a lot less than a competing console."
Although we have seen unofficial price reductions for limited periods by retailers such as ASDA and HMV which have seen minor boosts to Wii U sales figures in the UK, worldwide sales have, after a positive start at launch, become nothing short of dreadful in 2013, with Nintendo missing its projected sales forecast for the financial year.
Gamers and industry experts have often claimed a price reduction would help the system in much the same way the 3DS benefited from such action within a year of it's launch. That console has now become a huge seller in Japan, with America and Europe swiftly catching on to the 3DS phenomen which has been boosted by a strong software line up.
Without a price reduction though Nintendo will be relying on Super Mario 3D World and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze this Christmas to compete with the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
A Wii U premium bundle can currently be bought for £265.32 on amazon.co.uk, £269.99 on Tesco Direct and £279.99 on Game.co.uk as of 17th June 2013.
