The news basically everyone was waiting for was finally slipped in during today's Nintendo Direct: The Wonderful 101 - the colourful, mass-hero action game published by Nintendo and developed by Resident Evil 2 and Viewtiful Joe director Hideki Kamiya - will finally release in Europe on August 23rd.

It feels like a terribly long wait for the game that has stood above all others as the real Wii U gem since last E3, but if it's any consolation, Europe will get it first, before Japan and North America.

More teasingly, Satoru Iwata did not divulge any new details about the game, rather stating that new information will be shared gradually leading up to the game's release.

We'll just have to watch the most recent trailer a few more dozen times.
