Pokémon Go announced for Android and iOS

In a surprising move, The Pokémon Company, Nintendo and Niantic have announced an augmented reality mobile title called Pokémon Go.

Players will be able to catch, trade and battle Pokémon in the real world, as showcased by the shiny promotional video below.

People that don't spend all day glued to their phones aren't at a loss however, as an optional peripheral, known as Pokémon Go Plus, will be released.  This watch-like bluetooth device will connect to your smartphone and alert you when Pokémon Go things are happening nearby through vibration and a flashing light.  It can also be clipped on to clothing.  It's unlikely to be feauted in a Vogue, but it might save you constantly staring at your phone.

Pokémon Go apparently started development two years ago, with Satoru Iwata playing a large part in its development.  Nintendo and The Pokémon Company has teamed up with Niantic to bring this augmented reality experience to fans.  Niantic, a former Google start-up, is best known for their augmented reality MMO Ingress

The title is due to hit the Google Play Store and the App Store in 2016 and will be free-to-play but with in-app purchases.  Further details about the in-app purchases, or even the cost of the accessory, are not currently available.
