One of the joys of the Pokémon series is building up a team of Pokémon that you love.  While the more recent games have allowed you to transfer Pokémon through generations, the original titles used a different system that meant it was impossible...until now!

During today's Pokémon Direct it was confirmed that the Virtual Console releases of Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow will be compatible with Pokémon Bank!

This means that you can transfer your Pokémon to other games in the series, including the newly announced Pokémon Sun and Moon due out later this year.  So choose your starter wisely* because will now be with them for much longer.

*although we all know there is no real choice, it's got to be Squirtle.
