Project CARS no longer in development for Wii U

Slightly Mad Studios has confirmed that realistic racing sim Project CARS is no longer in development for Wii U.

The crowd-funded game, which successfully launched on PC, PS4 and Xbox One earlier this year, was announced to be coming to Wii U before the console even launched. The studio at one point claimed that "Wii U is more than capable of providing the core Project CARS experience".

But as time went on, the studio grew quieter on the prospect of a Wii U version. Earlier this year, the developer confirmed that the Wii U version was not up to standard, and even suggested that the studio would prefer to shift the game onto Nintendo's next generation console.

Now, the final nail has been placed in the Wii U version, with a Slightly Mad Studios spokesperson stating: "Despite much perseverance on the Wii U version of Project Cars, we will no longer be actively pursuing development on it as the quality does not meet our own high standards nor our intended vision for the title on this platform."

However, the studio also said it "optimistically looks forward to what the future may hold" in terms of putting the game on future Nintendo hardware.
