To celebrate Sonic's 25th anniversary Sega has announced a brand new 3D Sonic title called Project Sonic.

We do not know much at this stage, but the debut trailer shows Sonic in what looks like a post-apocalyptic wasteland and as he rushes off to save the day he is joined by an old familiar face.

Project Sonic is scheduled to launch in time for next Christmas on the NX, PS4, Xbox One and PC.

During their anniversary celebrations they also released a trailer for the Sonic LEGO Dimensions pack that is due out later this year.

Sega also announced a title inspired by the classic Sonic titles, complete with the Sega scream, called Sonic Mania but at present it seems it isn't coming to any Nintendo consoles.
