Resident Evil 6 storms Japan

The latest Japanese charts are out, and if you thought middling reviews for Capcom's latest high-budget project would hurt it in its pocket, it looks like you've misjudged the public, who seem to have gone for Resident Evil 6 in their droves.

The game would seem to be successfully hitting the mainstream audience Capcom openly crave - it sold close to double what Resident Evil 5 managed (on PS3) in its first week back in 2009.

A further bundle of new entries kept any signs of Nintendo out of the top 5, though Style Savvy: Trendsetters would seemingly have some legs.

Here is the software chart for the week of October 1st to 7th.

There was both good and bad news for Sony on the hardware side of things. The release of Resident Evil 6 and Winning Eleven aided PS3 in a bump greater than its enjoyed for quite some time. However, Vita stoops to some of the lowest weekly numbers it's experienced so far, although its sub-8k figure was enough to push the ailing handheld over the million mark. Meanwhile, there's a rare sight further down the chart with Xbox 360's zombie-shaped bump pushing it past Wii for the week.
