Rumour: Assassin's Creed 2 Heading To Wii?

If Ubisoft themselves are to be trusted, then it looks like the sequel will be hitting Wii this year...

Alhough previously-teased, Ubisoft has now 'officially' announced the upcoming release of Assassin's Creed 2. Why should Wii owners take notice? Because Ubisoft's press statement pins the game down to release on "all current-gen platforms" at the end of 2009. Unless Ubisoft has some other bizarre definition for the terminology, that would seem to include Wii.

The original Assassin's Creed released on Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2007 to much hype and decent reviews. The game featured some advanced adventuring aspects and unique stealth-action, all set in a convincing, living, breathing city.

If the sequel is coming to Nintendo's little, white box, then Wii owners should probably be a little surprised. Not only did the original not even appear on Wii, but it was a game which heavily relied on the strong processing power of the consoles it was running on. Excuse us for being overly-cautious, but until Ubisoft explicitly and specifially confirm the sequel for Wii, we can't quite bring ourselves to not put this down as a rumour for now.

But what do you think about the prospect of an Assassin's Creed game on Wii? Pioneering adventure or poor-quality port?
