Rumour: Beyond Good & Evil Sequel Still Possible?

Rumours are circulating (again) that the Michel Ancel and co. are working on a sequel to Beyond Good & Evil! Please please please...

French gaming site Jeux Expo is reporting that Ancel is back working on his pet project. The critically-acclaimed but commercially dissapointing Beyond Good & Evil was once planned as a trilogy, though nothing has been heard of the rumoured sequels for quite some time.

Recently busy developing King Kong (or Peter Jackson's King Kong - The Official Game of the Movie, as we're supposed to call it) and being given a French knighthood, Ancel has apparently stated the sequel is in development for all next-gen systems and will be released in 2007.

The legendary designer is not committed to any other projects at the moment, so these reports could very well be true, albeit a little suprising: while the first game in the series ended on a definate cliff-hanger (especially if you watched until after the credits), many had discounted the chance of there ever being a sequel. Despite this, there are of course always still many loyal fans who have never given up hope...

Update: French gaming site P-Nintendo have apparently contacted Ubisoft regarding the rumour, who commented that "no sequel to BG&E is currently under development. This rumour is pure speculation." It doesn't look good, but then Nintendo themself claimed the Revolution controller rumours were "pure speculation", and look how that turned out!

Thanks to San at P-Nintendo for the heads-up on the update!
