Could fans of Capcom's little-played adventure title be in for a follow-up?

Companies trademark names all the time, and it's unsurprising when nothing comes from 90% of the quirky obscurities that pass through the rumour mills from time to time. However, we thought this one was well worth a mention.

Capcom have recently filed a trademark for something (hopefully a real project) called 'Okamiden'. That to us sounds tantalisingly like the critically acclaimed Okami; which came to Wii in 2008 (having originally been released on PS2). Despite widespread praise, the title gained little commerical success on either system, and hopes for any sequels were not taken all that seriously.

A sequel to Okami would present particular intrigue considering original developer Clover Studios no longer exists. Nevertheless, Capcom still holds the rights to the franchise and at least cared about it enough to employ developer Ready at Dawn to port the game to Wii last year.

Keep it locked to N-E as we wait and see where this one goes...
