Handheld game said to be a 2D iteration of the mascot's ongoing reboot...

With game design veteran Warren Spector set to reveal Epic Mickey 2 in the coming days, a bit of a wildcard has popped up from Nintendo Magazine France, which claims (via ONM) that a separate game is due to hit Nintendo 3DS.

The game is reportedly titled Epic Mickey 2: Power of Illusion, and will include "classic 2D" gameplay, but it is not clear whether this would fully replace the 3D platforming nature of 2010's Epic Mickey. Nor is it clear whether this game would have any relation to the old Mickey Mouse Illusion games of the early 90's.

The main Epic Mickey 2 project is set to be revealed later this week, and is widely expected to be announced for Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3 (with quieter rumours suggesting a Wii U version).

Epic Mickey was released exclusively on Wii in 2010 and became Disney Interactive's most successful title.
