Rumour: Euro Wii In March 2007?

We really doubt it, but a small omen has appeared.

First of all, a word of caution. There's little real proof to back up this - potentially disastrous - news, but we thought you should know it anyway. IGN spotted a strange piece of information on the Argos (a British retail chain) homepage here: there's a small banner that says "Nintendo Wii: Launching March 2007", apparently replaced a similar message that reported a "Winter 2006" date. We'd rarely give such a thing serious thought, but the close timing of this change to Nintendo's announcement of the European launch date (it's tomorrow, folks) is very strange indeed.

We're not betting on anything yet - all will be revealed tomorrow by NOE. We sincerely hope Argos are simply inaccurate, or there could be riots in the streets.

Update! Aha, a development! An eagle-eyed reader has alerted us that Argos have reverted the banner back to the previous "Winter 2006" date. Is it a mix-up on their side, or were NOE afraid of the bad news being blown? We'll find out soon - the European Wii event starts in an hour.

Thanks to NE reader Tom Kirby for the tip.
