Rumour: FFIV Sequel Coming to Wii Ware?

Further facts point to the mobile phone sequel to Final Fantasy IV reaching Wii Ware. Read more inside.

Final Fantasy IV: The After is the sequel to Final Fantasy IV released only for mobile phones in Japan, but previous rumours hinted that the game could be making the trip overseas to Wii Ware. Now Siliconera has discovered that Square-Enix registered the trademark "The After Years" in both Europe and US.

While this isn't confirmation of anything, it's starting to look more and more likely that we might see this game reaching our shores. Cubed3 also says that Square-Enix's European division told them the game would indeed come to Wii Ware as well as XBLA and PSN.

It's important to note that "Crystal Defenders" also from Square-Enix, now out in the Japanese Wii Ware and iPhone/iPod Touch with upcoming PSN and XBLA versions, also started out as a mobile phone game.

We'll keep you updated on Final Fantasy IV: The After Years.

Update! The ERSB has rated the title for an American release on Wii. While 'Wii' was the only system specified, it's likely the game is indeed headed for WiiWare.
