Rumour: New Mario & Wii Fit For 2009

Further rumblings of the rumoured Wii Fit Plus as well as reports of a new Mario game set to impact this year...

Japanese publication Nikkei have reportedly scooped some of Nintendo's key plans for the second half of the year. The report claims that Nintendo are indeed planning to release a follow-up to the hugely popular Wii Fit as early as Autumn, and also have a surprise treat for Mario fans.

Via GoNintendo comes the translation of the article:

"The new 'Wii Fit Plus' game will now allow you to compare your body weight or health with friends and distant family members, thanks to an added online functionality. Additionally, a improved measurement capabilities will allow for a better health control. Special exercises destined to aged people, and aiming to lower their body charge will also be added."
"The second half of the year will also see the release of a new entry in the popular 'Mario' game series. Their aim is to support the decelerating sales of the Wii video game console."

With calls for a sequel after the monumental critical-success that was Super Mario Galaxy, a hypothetical Galaxy 2 doesn't seem so unlikely, but it would signify the fastest 3D Mario sequel Nintendo will have released by far should this rumour point to such a title.

Whatever the case, you can bet all will be revealed at Nintendo's E3 press conference on Tuesday. Stay tuned!
