Rumour: NX launch window to include Mario, Zelda and Pokémon

Industry trade magazine MCV has reported that Nintendo is intending to get the NX off to a strong launch with Zelda, Pokémon and Mario all launching in the first six months of the console's life.

We obviously know The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is set to launch alongside the console, both of which are still due for March 2017, and Nintendo typically releases a Mario title within the first six months of a console anyway so there's not much new there.

However, the inclusion of Pokémon suggests the company is looking to bring all their biggest franchises out quickly to give the NX a strong start, contrasting it with the Wii U and 3DS that suffered droughts after launch.

According to MCV Nintendo is also looking to get third party support, with Sega, Square Enix, Ubisoft, Activision and Warner Brothers already on board.  Ubisoft has made several comments about being excited about the NX and Sega has already confirmed Project Sonic will release late 2017, although this would be outside of the six month window so there's a good chance it will be another title.

MCV's sources also confirmed Eurogamer's rumours, which we reported last week, are "100 percent accurate".  Nintendo is apparently targetting an audience that "sits between smartphone gamers and the more hardcore users of PS4 and Xbox One".

The same source also describes the NX as a "nice bit of kit" and "a bit of a novelty, but a good one".  Interestingly they state Nintendo isn't looking to go after PS4 fans, but rather convince smartphone gamers to upgrade.
