Are we in for a treat or are we about to get April Fool'd?

The latest issue of the Official Nintendo Magazine has proudly declared in a teaser that its April issue will feature a world exclusive scoop. "Step back in time as a classic game makes a long overdue return!" is written over a background of thousands of stars, which you could say is extremely similar to NGamer magazine's world exclusive, also set to be revealed in an April issue. Hmm...

Forum users everywhere went into overdrive with talk about what game ONM could possibly be talking about. "Step back in time" could well mean that we might be in for a bit of retro goodness on the Virtual Console, whilst also adding fuel to the Sega Saturn VC rumour. Earthbound and NiGHTS seem to be the most popular guesses at the moment. Is all this publicity about the Sega Saturn a coincidence, real, or April Fool's?

Eagle-eyed forum reader Teppo Holmqvist found that the star outline in ONM's preview is infact the character NiGHTS. If this is not a sick prank by the magazine, then it means that we could well be in for a sequel, a remake or a Virtual Console outing. Yuji Naka once said that the Wii would be the perfect console for a NiGHTS sequel, if the game were ever to be developed.
