Rumour: Spong Re-Claims Friday Is Revolution Day

Gaming website Spong says it will be correct in prophesising the Revolution's reveal this Friday... We examine the story ahead of what could be the big day.

As we previously reported, gaming website Spong.com claimed last month that during Nintendo president Satoru Iwata's speech at the Tokyo Games Show this Friday, Nintendo's upcoming Revolution console and controller would be revealed in full. Feeding the flames of speculation once more, Spong have today referenced their previous article and assured visitors it will be proved correct in two days time.

So, will all be revealed? It's not a bad bet something will be shown - TGS is a high-profile press event, and time is running out for Nintendo to make their Revolution announcement before the end of the year.

Spong claim Iwata's announcement will fully outline the Revolution, its controller, and will include software being shown - again citing Mario 128 as one of the games likely to be there.

"Mario is the game that will show off the Revolution better than anything else in development right now," Spong were told by "a trusted and highly-placed source". "You have to remember that the Revolution will take standard GameCube controller input and this is not solely for GC backward compatibility and retro gaming. The Revolution controller concept is merely an option for developers."

Spong does make a very good point in its article, however - there will inevitably be some disapointment when the Revolution is revealed. As a by-product of Nintendo being so secretive, lavish fan creations have been spread around the internet (the infamous Nintendo ON, for example). Yet, "the Revolution controller will not be a time machine. It will not make your dinner. It will not transport you into parallel dimensions inhabited by Amazonian lady love warriors. It will be a game controller with some kind of trick up its sleeve." So let's just keep everything in perspective!

We do know as fact Iwata will be delivering his speech from this Friday, 16th September, at 11AM local time. Tokyo is 9 hours ahead, so that equates to 2am UK time. What will he say? We'll all have to stay up to find out for sure!
