Rumour: Switch has a capacitive multi-touch screen and JoyCon has IR

Nintendo has said that they won't be revealing any more about the Switch until January 13th, but that has not stopped Eurogamer digging out more information thanks to their sources.

Since its reveal last week, fans have been speculating about whether the Switch has a touch screen and if they have spotted an IR sensor in the JoyCon and Eurogamer's sources claim both are true.

According to the report the screen has ten point capacitive multi-touch, making it the first Nintendo console to offer capacitive touch.  This would mean that gestures using multiple fingers would be available.  The screen itself is 6.2 inches and has a 720p display.

Of course the Switch dock does cover up most of the screen, putting the touch screen out of reach.  However, the right-hand JoyCon apparently has an IR sensor that can be used by the Switch to simulate touch screen controls.  It would be less accurate than a touch screen of course, and put southpaws at a disadvantage if its only the right-hand one, but it would allow for the functionality to be used while docked.

It is worth remembering that Eurogamer were the first to reveal details about the Switch, declaring it to be a handheld-like device with detachable controllers so while it has not been confirmed by Nintendo, and won't be until January, their record on the Switch has been solid so far.
