Rumour: Version of Pokémon Sun and Moon coming to Switch

Eurogamer has heard from various sources that Pokémon Sun and Moon will get a Nintendo Switch version in 2017, tentatively titled Pokémon Stars.

The franchise has traditionally had three entries, with the first two arriving together and the third arriving later.  This will be the first time the third entry will arrive on a different console and the first time the mainline series will be released on a home console, due to the Switch's unique portability function.

The recent Pokémon games have actually featured high-res models that people have discovered when digging into the game's code, so we imagine Game Freak have been future-proofing for some time.

Rumours of a Switch version have been circulating for some time.  When Pokémon Sun and Moon were first unveiled there were signs of someone working on a bird Pokémon model that led some people to speculate it was for Nintendo's next console (then known as NX) and MCV said some time ago Pokémon, Zelda and Mario were all due to launch within the first six months.

Until we hear otherwise we're marking this as a rumour, but Eurogamer broke initial details about the Switch that later turned out to be true so we might well be playing Pokémon Stars some time next year!
