Rumour: Wii Resident Evil Announcement Imminent?

Several sources are claiming a new Resident Evil game for the Wii library is to be announced this week...

This is one that's slowly been building up over the past few days. Kotaku reports that Capcom will be announcing at least one one new game at a Resident Evil 5 launch event this Thursday, but should Wii owners be getting excited?

Well apparently yes, we should, as this announcement comes just days after an interview with Joystiq in which a Capcom spokesperson stated that "Wii fans will be very happy very soon" concerning the franchise. You'll be forgiven for questioning the relation between this statement and the new game announcement on Thursday, but here's the sucker punch.

In another seperate Capcom interview with Game Focus, the subject of the Dreamcast classic Code Veronica came up. To this, Capcom merely said:

"...what I can say is if you are a fan of Code Veronica you should pay attention in the next couple of weeks there is some news you should be very pleased with... Pay attention on the 12th (March)."

So the evidence points to a Code Veronica-related Wii title of some sorts. Speculation has been rife, ranging from a RE4 style Wii-imagining to a sequel to Umbrella Chronicles which would also cover other games not touched upon in the original. Nothing's certain yet, but be sure to stay tuned on Thursday...
