Rumour: Wii Successor Rumours Begin

It's that time again. Leading up to E3 2011, rumours are circulating over the successor to the Nintendo Wii.

E3 2011 is now under two months away, and now the internet has been hit with rumours of Nintendo announcing the successor to the Nintendo Wii that launched back in 2006. According to Game Informer the system is capable if running games at an HD resolution and is aiming to recapture the hardcore market.

In terms of graphical power, sources have been stating that the console is significantly more powerfull than the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Going with earlier reports that the console can surpass what the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 can produce. Also according to Game Informer, Nintendo has already been showing the system off to various publishers in order for them to develop in advance, which builds on what Nintendo has stated about increasing the ties between 3rd parties instead of the claim that only Nintendo software sells the hardware.

One source went on to state

"Nintendo is doing this one right," said an anonymous source. "[It's] not a gimmick like the Wii."

The console is also said to be backwards compatible, but anything beyond this is still unknown, such as controls and software and network infrastructure Nintendo will provide for their titles and online system.

When a Nintendo rep got contacted, they said "Stay tuned..." This may also be fuelled by official E3 Expo page saying, "Could it be? Tune in June 7th and see.... http://fb.me/G77gvduy", with the link directing the user back to the Game Informer article claiming the E3 2011 console reveal.

What is also worth pointing out, is that Yoshinori Ono mentioned Super Street Fighter will have some form of connectivity to a video game system, but can't say anything until June, which does go in hand with the rumours so far.

The sources are also claiming that there will be a pre-announcement from Nintendo later this month.
