Rumour: Wii U to Support Two Tablet Controllers

A fresh bout of rumours suggests Nintendo is to finalise plans to support more than one Wii U controller for the new console...

Nintendo is to build the Wii U console to simultaneously support up to two of the new tablet-like controllers - that's according to Develop.

The publication cites an unnamed source in the development community as saying that Nintendo "now knows they absolutely need to support two tablets", and that the company is already finalising the hardware to achieve this.

The report comes after months of speculation as to how many Wii U controllers the console would support. At E3, Nintendo specifically did not commit to either one or multiple - game demos utilised one at the most, with the official line from Nintendo being that multiple-controller support was not ruled out. Cost of extra controllers to the consumer was understood to be a key factor to the uncertainty, though there is still no sign of whether Wii U tablets will be available to buy separately.

The source also claimed that there were two other areas still to be finalised in the console - RAM capacity and processor speed. It is understood that the earliest development kits had RAM of no lower than 1GB.

Nintendo is set to show off the final form of the new system at E3 next year.
