While the Game Developers Conference is typically a place for developers to get together and companies to showcase their upcoming products and services, this year during the annual awards ceremony Nintendo's Satoru Iwata was remembered in a touching animated tribute.
Iwata, who passed away last July, may have been Nintendo's President but he started his career as a developer, a role he clearly loved. One of his more well-known quotes, and certainly one that became pertinent on his passing, was "on my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer".
Fittingly, the Game Developers Conference remembered him with a three minute animated film by Raber Umphenour, Shawne Benson, David Hellman and Chris Kohler. Starting with his early creation Balloon Fight, the video highlights many of the wonderful things he and his colleagues at Nintendo gave us gamers.
