Welcome to the final day of our 3DS Week. With Friday's release of the highly anticipated Nintendo 3DS we worked hard to provide a lot of 3DS related content on the site. Below is a roundup of all the news, reviews and features in case you missed any of them during the week. To access any of the material click on the attached images. Undoubtedly you will have seen the rotating banners we have had on the site and all credit goes to Manuel for his wonderful work. Did you find the easter egg in the console banner? We will obviously have many more reviews and features in the near future so stay tuned to the site!
Reviews
Nintendo 3DS Hardware Review
We kicked off the week with our five page review of the console itself. In it we discussed what the console offers, gave an outline of all the features and shared our impressions on it. The full review can be found by clicking on the image below.
Nintendo chose to add new functions, rather than exponentially increasing the specifications, and it is these new features that will ensure the console continues to provide fantastic new games in the future.
Pilotwings Resort Review
The franchise returns after fifteen years away and takes place on Wuhu Island, from titles such as Wii Sports Resort. We discuss whether the changes still make it a Pilotwings game and just how much fun can be had from flying around.
This [Free Flight] mode really allows you to explore both the beauty and complexity of the island, particularly when you earn more time. One of my fondest memories of Pilotwings 64 was just exploring the island and this feeling is replicated with Pilotwings Resort. Finding hidden nooks and crannies and discovering all the areas from the Wii series titles makes this mode very enjoyable and something to relish.
Super Street Fighter IV 3D
Another classic franchise featured in the 3DS launch line-up. Nintendo gamers finally got a chance to experience the franchise's recent revival and so much more thanks to the new 3DS-exclusive features.
If you're a fan of the series you won't put this down but if you are a casual player than this game will be one you frequently go back to when the mood strikes you and with the numerous players and modes you won't be getting bored of it any time soon.
Nintendogs + cats
Nintendogs + cats was one of the few first party titles available at launch and added several new features to bring Nintendog fans back and we discussed whether or not that worked.
Nintendogs + cats is ultimately an enjoyable game that oozes charm. There is something so enjoyable about watching the animals interact with the world around them, be it batting around tennis balls or playing with each other.
Features
1P Vs 2P - 3DS
1P and 2P make a long-awaited return to discuss the merits, and costs, of 3D gaming.
2P: 200 for a handheld is insane. That's what they're all charging.
1P: Yes? If you want the latest tech, you have to pay a premium to get it on launch day!
2P: It's sick! Kids are climbing the walls for this thing and the retailers are sitting back counting their money
1P: Actually it's your money.
3DS UK Launch Event Report
We attended the official Nintendo 3DS launch event in London and give you the lowdown on what games were featured, who was there and the moment the clock hid midnight.
The evening also featured a number of other attractions. At the start of the evening gamers could battle it out on Super Street Fighter IV 3D for a chance to win goodies. During this Ryu and Ken, or should we say martial artists dressed up as them, were available for a photo shoot. They also engaged in a fight to entertain the crowd, although unfortunately we didn't get the chance to see who won.
N-E Forum Members 3DS Launch Stories
We invited our forum members to share their 3DS launch day stories. There was a mixture of successful and unsuccessful stories but it would seem that the majority of people are happy with the product itself.
Seems HMV thinks you start counting backwards and decided it would be okay to let everyone at the back of line start buying their stuff first. D'oh, guys, doing so well up until this point! You should have seen the look of confusion and slight panic on the face of the security guard.
3DS Wallpapers
Edd Rawles, one of our graphic designers known as Eddage on the forums, made some fantastic 3DS wallpapers to celebrate the launch of the console. They come in a variety of styles and sizes so be sure to check them out.
