Site News: Change Is Good

Some important site news, as N-Europe's Editor-in-Chief Tom Phillips steps down from his role.

Hey guys,

It's a great time to be a Nintendo gamer - there is change on the horizon. The 3DS lies tantalisingly close, ready to finally dethrone the DS (read our hands-on for full impressions) and there's an flotilla of revolutionary first-party goodness on the way for the Wii (Donkey Kong back to his true platforming roots, Zelda with new Motion Plus controls and Kirby with an entirely new graphical style). As a rubber-gloved careworker might say to her elderly bedridden ward, changes are good.

On more personal note, after more than five happy years with N-Europe it is now my turn to make a change. I've been offered a position elsewhere in the games industry, which unfortunately means the time has come to bid farewell to the site. N-Europe is phenomenally lucky to have such an engaged readership and forum community. I want to say thank you to everyone who reads N-Europe - you really are are the reason we do what we do. To inform, entertain, and hopefully provoke some mildly-intelligent debate. I'm going to miss reading all your feedback, comments, and emails.

So what next? Well, I'm very pleased to be handing on the editorial reigns to someone who will be well known to many of you. Having been with the site a great number of years and is practically a messianic figure of the N-E forums, I'm rather chuffed to announce that Ashley Jones will be N-Europe's new Editor-in-Chief. He has some great ideas planned - but I won't spoil them here :)

If this is your first time on the site, welcome. If you've been with us since the Cube-Europe days or before, welcome back. N-Europe's here to stay.

Game on,

- Tom Phillips

N-Europe ex-chief Tom Phillips, new boy Ashley Jones and project founder Tim Symons

Hello everyone,

To be frank I'm not sure how to describe the current situation. While I want to say something like "it was almost inevitable" it seems too arrogant. I have been with this site for 8 years in one capacity or another so I was either going to end up running it or ruining it. I started as a news reporter, hired by Tim back in October 2002, and eventually moved up to the ranks of Head of News. While in this position I hired Tom (he seemed to work out okay, no?) and now by a strange twist of fate he is passing on the Editor-in-Chief position to myself. Many of you may know of me due to my history with the site and the forums, but for those who don't I would like to extend my greetings to you.

I was very sad, and utterly shocked, to hear that Tom was leaving us for greener pastures (greener in the sense that it pays more) but I would like to wish him all the luck in the world in his new position. He has been a pleasure to work with and given a great deal of time, energy and passion into the site even despite leading a busy personal and academic life. I intend to continue the legacy passed on to me, and hopefully improve the site for both the staff and our wonderful readers who keep us going. I have many ideas that I intend to implement in the coming months, so don't leave just yet!

I look forward to the challenge of keeping the site the place you know and love while making it even bigger and better. N-Europe has been around in some capacity for 12 years and I know I have some very big shoes to fill - but I will strive to do my best for the site.

- Ashley Jones
