Sega has revealed a brand new Sonic game coming to 3DS and Wii U, and its one that gives the Blue Blur and his pals quite the, er, makeover.

Sonic Boom comes part of a new line of the Sonic franchise, with the games on 3DS and Wii U to be joined by a range of toys and brand new TV series. The video game will be developed in the west, with the Wii U version to be handled by new studio Big Red Button Entertainment - formed by Naughty Dog and Heavy Iron veterans - whilst duties for the 3DS version are with Sanzaru. The Wii U version has been developed on Crytek's CryEngine 3.

The gameplay looks to take quite the turn from the main series too, with big open levels and projectile combat the order of the day. Check out the debut trailer below.
