Sonic The Hedgehog joins 3D Classics range... in Japan!

Sonic The Hedgehog is set to speed onto the Japanese eShop soon and not as a mere Virtual Console title but instead, a 3D Classics entry.

The 3D Classics range brings old classics to life with the use of stereoscopic 3D. Other titles in the range include Kid Icarus, Excite Bike and a couple of Mega Drive titles including Super Hang-On and 3D Space Harrier.

Obviously though, as soon as it was announced the Mega Drive games would make their way to the 3D Classics range, everyone was waiting for Sonic's first outing. As well as the 3D layering added to this classic, SEGA has also added the spin dash from Sonic The Hedgehog 2 and a save state system.

There's an option to turn off the spin dash and you can also remap the buttons to your liking.

The 3D Classics version of Sonic The Hedgehog is set to arrive in Japan on May 15th. Would you like to see it come over to Europe? Given the popularity of the blue blur over here, we're going to guess that it's only a matter of time.
