Nintendo has announced an inkredible new Direct broadcast for next week, with the fantastic looking Wii U shooter Splatoon to get its time in the limelight.

Splatoon is the next big original thing from Nintendo's internal EAD studio, and pits two teams of up to four players against each other in a fight to splat and capture as much territory as possible with massive paint guns. It's sort of like Call of Duty meets de Blob. Oh, and you can also turn into a squid.

There's also a very neat looking single-player mode, teased in the trailer below.

The Splatoon Direct will divulge even more new game details when it airs on May 7th at 15:00 BST / 16:00 CEST. You can watch it here.
