Nintendo's comprehensive marketing push for its newest franchise appears to have paid off, with news that Splatoon has made a strong debut in the UK.

The game debuted the all-formats chart at number 2 - behind only The Witcher 3 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It also takes the (slightly dubious) honour of overtaking ZombiU as the fastest-selling new IP on Wii U in the UK.

On top of that, Splatoon is also the fifth fastest-selling Wii U game in the UK since the console's launch. Not bad for a brand new shooter on a Nintendo platform.
