Square Enix Pursue Multiplatform Strategy

Square Enix have announced a three year plan, which they call “Square Enix Reboots, and Awakens”, to change their fate for the better, as they face less than ideal profits this financial year, ending March 31st 2024.
Square Enix revealed in its earnings report that sales in the Digital Entertainment segment, which includes video games, rose by 2.6% but profit fell by 15.8%.
With this in mind, it seems Square Enix are adamant to release all of their titles across more platforms:
“We launched many titles but some failed to live up to profit expectations, especially outsourced titles and some AAA titles.
We will build an environment where more customers can enjoy our titles in regards to major franchises and AAA titles including catalog titles.
We plan to aggressively pursue a multiplatform strategy that includes Nintendo platforms, PlayStation, Xbox, and PCs.”
Many take this to mean that the typical PlayStation exclusivity seen with main-line Final Fantasy titles will be a thing of the past.
Hopefully this also means more effort will go into their releases too, such as how the Kingdom Hearts series finally made its way to Switch but then disappointed the masses by being a cloud-based release. Maybe in the future we will receive the proper Kingdom Hearts releases we’ve been yearning for all these years?
