Following rumours last year, it has now been officially confirmed that a Super Mario animated movie is in the works with Nintendo and Illumination working together on bringing Nintendo's mascot to the big screen (again).

The animated film about the world of the Super Mario Bros will be animated by Illumination, best known for the Minions film, and co-financed by Universal Pictures.

There is no word yet on when the film should be expected, but given the time taken to animated a film it is safe to say it will be sometime after 2020.

Of course Mario was turned into a film over 20 years ago, but we prefer not to talk about that.
