The much-touted Nintendo Online service will be launching in September, the subscription service will be required for playing most games online but it does come with a few features; one of which is access to 20 NES titles, all of which will apparently come with online functionality.
Nintendo have since shared a screenshot promoting Super Mario Bros. 3 which seems to show off what it will look like in their Tweet below...

Originally you were able to play multiplayer with two players by taking turns, Nintendo has stated that you'll be able to play this game online when the service launches so it's assumed that you will be able to play this previously exclusive local multiplayer mode online.
There isn't a lot else to say at this point, so I thought we might take a closer look at this glorious solitary screenshot as it helps tide up over until September...
My eagle eyes can confirm that this is indeed Super Mario Bros. 3
So there we have it, in September we will finally have some classic Nintendo games available to play on the Switch but presumably only as part of Nintendo Online for now.
There's always the possibility of a Nintendo Direct centered around every aspect of the upcoming service which is only mere weeks away. But we might have to make do with a press release, time will tell.
Are you potentially excited at the prospect of Nintendo Online? Does the idea of paying to access classic games purely on a subscription basis appeal to you? Or perhaps giving players another option to buy games outright in addition to the soon to launch service would be a good idea?
Possibly a "NOT Virtual Console" of some description, maybe under a new "Nintendo Classics" banner might be a viable option? At this point we really don't know and so speculation is the only answer but we're surely excited to see how Nintendo Online pans out in the future.
