The first new entry of the Super Monkey Ball series in over 10 years is finally out now and exclusive to the Nintendo Switch!

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble offers over 200 new levels and the ability to play any mode online with up to 16 players!

The reviews are in and things are looking good, with the Metacritic score currently at 76/100 at the time of writing.

Nintendo Insider were particularly impressed, giving the game a score of 80:

As well as making it to the stage’s goal, each also has three optional tasks to complete challenging the player to finish within a certain amount of time, collect a certain number of bananas or find the special golden banana (often placed in a rather tricky spot). It gives you a reason to return to stages other than simply to shave seconds and adds further difficulty to an already pretty tough game.

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble is a welcome return to new ideas for the franchise, and does manage to avoid inferior minigame replication disappointment by… not replicating the old minigames at all! The choice to ape (pun intended, pun always intended, you know us) Fall Guys’ multiplayer formula isn’t the best, but there’s some fun here. And the main mode is enjoyable too!

Meanwhile, VGC weren’t quite as impressed and awarded the game 3 out of 5 stars:

It’s sure to pass the time, and fans of Monkey Ball will welcome the addition of 200 new stages to play through, but the reduced performance (especially in Battle mode) and the general lack of other Party mini-games makes this a by-the-numbers addition to a much-loved series.
