Super Smash Bros. Ultimate European Online Challenge Throwback Throwdown announced

Nintendo have just announced Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - European Online Challenge Throwback Throwdown, which will go live on October 16th, 2020 for all European gaming territories.

The first #SmashBrosUltimate European Online Challenge kicks off 16/10 with a tournament inspired by the original Super Smash Bros. on Nintendo 64! Place highly and you could win up to 10,000 Gold Points to spend on #eShop.

Fight like it's 1999 with this Online Challenge, inspired by the game that started it all – Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64!
For this event, only stages and items from the original Super Smash Bros. on Nintendo 64 will be available. Earn plenty of points, rank within the top 100 during this Online Challenge, and you could win 1,000 Gold Points. Place first within your region and you could win a prize of 10,000 Gold Points!
Event Details
The Throwback Throwdown is an online competition held within the Nintendo Switch software title Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (referred to below as “the game”), and is operated by Nintendo of Europe GmbH, Goldsteinstr. 235, 60528 Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
Event period and locations
The event takes place on Friday, 16 October, from 18:00 to 20:00 (CEST) and is available to residents of the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. In order to ensure a good game play experience for all players, players from regions of great geographical distance to central Europe (such as the Canary Island, the Azores, the Svalbard archipelago and the continental Asian part of Russia) are not allowed to participate in the event and are blocked from entering the event through technical measures.
Participation
To participate in the competition, players need to have a Nintendo Account with a country/region setting for one of the countries the event is available in. The Nintendo Account must have an active Nintendo Switch Online membership. No distinction is made between types of membership, whether any type of paid membership or a free trial. In order to participate, a player needs to have access to the game on Nintendo Switch, and must use their Nintendo Account to finish at least one event tourney match within the game. The event tourney can be accessed from the main menu within the game by selecting “Online”, followed by “Official Tourney Qualifiers”.
