Switch Sales up 39% In Europe

The Nintendo Switch had been the top selling console for almost as long as we can remember, but recent months saw it lose out to the PS5 thanks to the age of the Switch, better availability of the PS5, and a slightly leaner line-up on Nintendo’s console than previous years.
May changed all that though, as did The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and the Nintendo Switch is back on top as the best selling console for the month, and saw a 39% increase in sales compared to this time last year. The PS5 came in second and surged an amazing 81%.
After three weeks on sale, Zelda now claims to be the third best-selling title of the year, behind FIFA 23 and Hogwarts Legacy.
The increase in Switch sales, driven by the acclaimed new Zelda, also saw a surge across other Switch accessories. The Nintendo Switch Pro Controller jumped 530% in sales since the release of Tears of the Kingdom, and 1.35 million of the newest Zelda amiibo were sold last month, proving that Nintendo’s ‘toys to life’ range refuses to die despite the untimely death of competitors such as Skylanders and Disney Infinity all those years ago.
Nintendo will surely be more than pleased with these numbers considering their recent fears.
Meanwhile, Zelda’s impressive 3-week run at the number 1 spot in the UK boxed charts couldn’t last forever, and it was finally dethroned by Diablo IV this week, which is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series. Given Nintendo titles tend to be more evergreen than other front-loaded releases, could we see Zelda reclaim its top spot next week?
