The Game Awards 2019 Roundup
Posted 13 Dec 2019 at 15:37 by Sam C Gittins
The Game Awards 2019 took place last night, it's the fifth annual awards ceremony of its kind hosted by Geoff Keighley and traditionally there have been many Nintendo related announcements at these shows in addition to a lot of other exclusive 'world premiere's' encompassing most of the games industry in general.
Many staff and forum members stayed up to watch the show live and for better or worse there were some good Nintendo annoucements and moments which made it worth sticking it out through all of the general games media/corporate promotion items plus what seemed to be either the reveal of the next Xbox console or two GameCube consoles stacked on top of one another, sprayed black with a disc slot placed at the bottom of the unit; we're not sure which it is yet but it was certainly a reveal it would seem.
In all seriousness, there were a couple of great moments as Doug Bowser the current President of Nintendo of America accepted the award for best fighting games which of course went to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate because why wouldn't it? And later on in the show, former presdient of Nintendo of America, the Fils-A-Mech... (nope that's not right) Reggie Fils-Aime presented the award for best Indie game which went to Disco Elysium but not before he gave a nice speech reflecting on his time in the games industry and mentioning how Shigeru Miyamoto along with the sorely missed Satoru Iwata both started from humble beginnings as well; lest we forget that all great ideas for games must all start from somewhere.
Check below for a handy list of ALL the nominees and winners nicely typed up by our very own Dennis Tummers in addition to some Nintendo related trailers...

And here are the trailers for all of the Nintendo related titles which were unveiled...
Also, in case you hadn't watched The Game Awards 2019 yet or if you just wanted to catch a few moments for yourself, you can catch up with it in the video below...
Not a bad showing for Nintendo overall then, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate definitely deserving of its award, it's nice to have a brand new title announced for the Switch in Bravely Default II plus it was good to see so many people in the industry being recognised, so congratulations from all of us here at N-Europe to all of the winners.
Did you watch any of The Game Awards? Were there any moments which you enjoyed? Or was there just too much padding and advertisements for it to be worth watching?
