Why have Nintendo chosen Namco?

Namco Bandai are set to work on the next Smash Bros. title for Wii U and 3DS but why did Nintendo choose them?
Creator of Tekken, Katsuhiro Harada, believes it is because of the 17 years experience they have with the Tekken series.
"I think Nintendo chose us because Smash Brothers is a fighting game. We have over 17 years of continuously developing titles in our Tekken franchise, I think they felt we were a choice for that."
Indeed, to have a developer on board who are famed for their fighting games seems like a great decision on Nintendo's behalf and it makes sense when you consider that Namco Bandai have developed a "very good" relationship with Nintendo and Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai.
"We've continually developed a very good relationship with Nintendo. Maybe not necessarily in the public spotlight but kind of behind the scenes. We have established a very good working relationship with them. Not just Nintendo, but as a company, we have a good relationship with Sakurai-san at Sora as well."
