We still wait for the day that old Gamecube games get put on Virtual Console, but for now we'll settle for today's announcement that classic Wii games will be re-released on the eShop - starting from today.
Wii U is already backwards compatible with all Wii discs, but anyone who missed out on some classics first time around (or didn't, but is too lazy to boot up Wii Mode) can download selected games that have been reproduced for digital re-release.
Starting from right now, one of the games of the generation in Super Mario Galaxy 2 is available to buy on the Wii U eShop. From January 22nd, Donkey Kong Country Returns will be added, and then the super-rare Metroid Prime Trilogy a week later.
The other games to be confirmed for re-release later on are Kirby's Adventure Wii, Pandora's Tower, Sin & Punishment 2, and Punch Out!!
Some of them will even be playable on the GamePad's Off-TV mode.
The standard download price will be £17.99 / €19,99, but each game will be available for half price at £8.99 / €9,99 for just their week only. Less then three quid per Metroid Prime game - phwoar.
