In a left-field move, Nintendo last week revealed that it planned to release Nintendo DS titles on the Wii U Virtual Console.
No specific details or timeframe was announced, but the example used to demonstrate the idea was the smash-hit 'non-game' Brain Training.
Intriguingly, no plan to release Nintendo DS games on the 3DS Virtual Console was mooted.
In more tangible news, Nintendo also revealed that a summer update to the Wii U firmware would allow a 'quick-boot' option, whereby users can turn on their system and boot up a game - either downloaded onto the console or inserted in the disc drive - straight away. Rather than opening the entire operating system and starting a game from there, the quick boot should decrease the time to start a game by about fifty percent.
The feature was demonstrated below.
