Wii U has sold 400,000 units in its first week on sale in America

Reggie Fils-Aime is gleaming this week (and it's not just his chin) as the Wii U has had a great start in America. Nintendo managed to sell over 1.2 million hardware units through combined sales of the Wii, 3DS, DS and Wii U.

The Wii U sold 400,000 units whilst Nintendo also sold 300,000 Wii's, 250,000 3DS' and 275,000 DS systems.

Not only that, but the Wii U is pretty much sold out in every retail outlet. Reggie is urgent to assure people that Nintendo are working hard to replenish stock as quickly as possible though.

The Wii U launches this Friday in Europe, will the sales continue to be this positive? The original Wii managed to sell 600,000 units in America within its first week on sale.
