Yoichi Wada resigns as Square-Enix CEO

The CEO of major Japanese publisher Square-Enix - Yoichi Wada - has stepped down from his position.

The resignation comes as the house that built Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest prepares to announce a fiscal year loss of 13 billion yen (about £90m), following initial expectations of a 3.5 billion yen (£24.4m) profit.

Part of the huge loss comes from 10 billion yen plans for a major restructuring and reform of the company, which will come following disappointing sales of Square-Enix's games in the west.

That news hit as the company revealed that its Tomb Raider reboot has sold 3.4 million units worldwide, and Hitman: Absolution 3.6 million units, and that both failed to meet internal sales targets.

Former senior vice-president, director, and chief financial officer Yosuke Matsuda will take up the vacted role of CEO.
