Yooka-Laylee Kickstarter ends with over £2.1 million raised

The Kickstarter campaign for the game created by several high-profile former members of Rare has come to a close and raised over two million pounds.

Yooka-Laylee is the debut title of Playtonic Games, a collection of folks who were central to the most successful period of the former Nintendo partner's history during the late-nineties. The likes of Chris Sutherland and Steve Myles - veterans of classic 3D platformers such as Banjo Kazooie - are helming development of the game.

Rare musical legends David Wise and Grant Kirkhope also reunite for the score.

With an initial Kickstarter goal of £175,000, gamers rushed to support the project in their droves when it was initially announced. Now, after 47 days, the Kickstarter campaign has reached its end, with over £2,000,000 raised for development. With Paypal payments added on, that figure will be comfortably over £2.1m.

Yooka-Laylee was always planned to release on Wii U, but when the campaign passed the £1,000,000 mark, it was confirmed that it would launch on consoles at the same time as the PC, Mac, and Linux version.

The achievement of additional stretch goals means the game will also have local multiplayer, an orchestral score, and a developer commentary. All who backed the game will also receive some additional DLC free of charge.

Yooka-Laylee is scheduled to release in October 2016.
