Preview: Big Brain Academy for Wii

"Thanks to the flexibility offered by the remote, the transition from DS to Wii should be a smooth one."

Hot on the heels of More Brain Training from Dr. Kawashima: How Old Is Your Brain? for the DS, gamers will soon be bending their minds around Nintendo's first brain game for the Wii – Big Brain Academy for Wii. Whether or not it will have to mental agility to outsmart its critics and the depth of knowledge to become a true master-mind has yet to be seen, but it's definitely looking promising.

Along with Dr Kawashima's effort, Big Brain Academy was a smash hit on the DS. More colourful and cutesy than its DS sibling, it nevertheless offered a challenge that could keep you coming back for months. Thanks to the flexibility offered by the remote, the transition from DS to Wii should be a smooth one, and what Nintendo's home console lacks in portability should be made up by the potential multi-player brain clashes.

Retaining and embellishing upon the DS original visual style, Big Brain Academy for Wii will offer up similar experience. After enrolling at the Big Brain Academy it's off to class to give your grey matter a workout! 15 mini-games will be included which although sounding somewhat slight should have the depth and variety to hold your attention.

The multiplayer (which will surely be the title's biggest attraction) could very make this the Wii Sports for your mind. Easy to pick up, with the potential to enthral young and old, it should deliver on Nintendo's promise to level the gaming playing field. Three multiplayer modes will be available mainly revolving around two player split screen, but an eight player 'pass the remote' mode should offer a perfect intellectual-party!

Only time will tell if Big Brain Academy for Wii will live up to the standard and success carved out by the DS original, but come the 20th July, N-Europe will be here with the low-down, mortar-boards perched precariously upon our heads!
