Preview: GEIST

A brand new franchise was exposed at the Nintendo press conference. A title that takes a step closer to a more mature GameCube, with games that may appeal to a slightly older audience and dismiss the (wrong) idea of a “child's console”. This title is Geist, a first-person adventure published by Nintendo itself. The developer will be n-Space, the creators in charge of…Mary-Kate and Ashley Sweet 16. Yes, you heard me right. Nintendo's latest game is in the hands of these twin-loving people. But let's ignore the past and focus on the (hopefully bright) future…

You take the role of a Spectral Operative in search of a physical body in a huge complex, similar to Resident Evil in a certain way. During your adventure you will encounter various spirits, some of them malign, others that will facilitate your quest. Everything sounds good so far, but wait 'til you hear what your main power is…

Here's the incredible part, being a ghost you can creepily possess the bodies of various humans and creatures. Soldiers, dogs, mice, are only some of the beings that have been mentioned so far, and who knows what other things they'll come up with during the game's development. And you're not only in charge of their body, but also their memory and arsenal of weapons. What this does is open a whole new world to the resolution of puzzles. Just imagine the possibilities! The guys at Nintendo and n-Space sure were innovative with this idea of incorporating numerous characters to take control of in the game.

A multiplayer mode has also been announced, and I'm sure this will be the real strong point of Geist. Possessing various characters to beat your friends turns your gaming experience into a real tactical war. Use your different skills to move to different locations, morph into different characters to obtain superior arms. The options are endless. Let's hope that Geist will live up to other games that the big N has published. Meanwhile, all we can do is admire the screenshots and take in all the upcoming information regarding this game that will be released next year in Japan, the USA, and Europe.
