Spider-Man 2 is not the same game you can expect to buy for the GameCube; it is a completely new game just for the precious Nintendo DS. So please do not expect to see a full 3D world where you can go anywhere of your choosing, it is a nice and simple 2D side scrolling game, but don't start thinking the graphics are poor because I simply said 2D. The graphics are the type you would expect to see in Viewtiful Joe. You really have to see this game moving before you can make any judgment; the still screenshots do not justify it at all. The speed of the motion on screen is lightning fast and possibly the fastest so far on the DS.
Spider-Man 2 has been brought to us by Vicarious Visions, the clever people who brought Tony Hawks to the GBA. They did incredible things with the game, and pretty much introduced 3D graphics to the GBA. Now they promise to do the same by making some incredibly strong and slick graphics for Spidey and his new outing.
As already mentioned, the game is incredibly fast, which will make it an interesting and challenging game to play as sometimes, it can be quite difficult to gauge, but with plenty of game time this shouldn't be a problem. There will be plenty of actions which your friendly local neighbourhood Spider-Man will be able to perform. Some of these are the standard web slinging, perhaps some web swinging, maybe even a bit of wall climbing, but most of all there will be the god old handy left and right fist, which are handy for punching those bad guys in the face.
Of course the game will also take advantage of the DS's unique features, well at least one. The touch screen will be used during some boss battles. One such example is when Spider-Man comes face to face with Doc Ock. The mad and evil genius will start throwing things at our hero, so by utilizing the touch screen and also the use of the players' finger, the user must hit the moving objects out of the way so to avoid being badly hurt.
The simple fact that this is Reggie's favourite Nintendo DS launch title shows that this has to be a game worthy of at least a little of your attention, if not for you, but for Spidey and the rest of New York, its fate is in your hands, quite literally.
