Review: Disney's Party
Posted 02 Dec 2003 at 02:14 by Dan Odgers
Disney may have had 75 years entertaining the world with their movies, theme parks, and toys but when it comes to their games; well they have less then trilling. Giving some of the games to my 5 year old brother made him cry! Can Disney's Party turn the tides? Can it even beat Mario at his own party?
The game starts off by introducing the characters: Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Billy, Donald, and Daisy. This means them walking in to a village and having their names flash up. So far nothing new!
Graphics:
Nothing to write home about. The game is not extremely detailed. Just lots of bright kiddie colours. If your little siblings were playing this they will love them. But they will practically have to sit in the TV to read the text. In game the graphics are again very bright. The backgrounds are more detailed but not so that your eye wonders from what you are doing. The characters are very well animated each having their own moves and body language but don't be fooled I make it sound more upper class then it really is.
Sound:
Unless you are deaf you will be on in edge of throwing the TV out of the window. The music, sound effects, the characters voices, everything is just well painful! It is as if the Cheeky Girls have written the music for this game. The characters say the same catchphrases over and over again. In 15 minutes worth of play I think I heard Minnie say: 'this is fun' around 80 times. So do your self a favour and save your ears. Press that mute button.
Gameplay:
To start the 'parties' you have to select a ticket. Sound familiar?! There are 4 types of game; 'Game Board Mode' which involves filling a card with coins. First to compile the coins wins. 'Play in Pairs Mode'; same as Game Board Mode but your in pairs. 'Mini Game Mode'; No prizes for guessing what this mode is! Last 'Free Pass'; Play what you have unlocked in 'Game Board Mode' and 'Play in Pairs Mode'. That is the whole of the game! If you win there is a party held for you, if you don't you go round again!
Controls:
Disney's Party is an easy game to learn, as all Disney games are, and controlling your char consists of only two buttons. If ever the controls change i.e. for a Mini game, it will tell you so. Just like in Mario Party.
Lifespan:
This game will not even last 30 minutes and that if you the brain the size of Bill Gates Bank account. It is confusing from start to finish. Pages and pages of rules and instructions for each and every move you make. You will be so confused your brain will explode in a bloody mess; you will turn off the Gamecube in anger and never come back to the game again.
Final Say:
Yet another game is added to Gamecube's library. Yet another Disney game. Yet again they fail. Stay away from this. Don't buy this. Not even for preteen fans of the Disney characters. They will cry tears and disappointment, rage, and anger. Like my brother when he played this game. "What they done to Mickey" If you find this under the tree at Christmas; Do anything with it but play it! The Gamecube has a new low; Disney's Party.
N-Europe Final Verdict
Don't buy. Not fun at all. Don't even think about it.
